Ayrshire Connect

Irvine

Irvine is one of Ayrshire's largest towns, offering a long, sandy beach with stunning views and a beach park, as well as a boat museum, large shopping centre and a range of bars and restaurants.

The Main Street in the centre of town, and the large Rivergate shopping centre next to the Main Street, are the busiest parts of the town, with a great variety of shops offering a mix of both independent and major retail stores. The town also features an abundance of local cafes, pubs and restaurants to choose from.

Irvine is known for its harbour which has become a major West Coast seaport. It now houses the main site of the Scottish Maritime Museum, located in a former shipyard building.

For golf enthusiasts, Irvine also has several quality links golf courses, perfect for a couple of invigorating rounds. Book tee times at the likes of Dundonald Links, Gailes, Western Gailes and Irvine Bogside.

In an almost central location, Irvine has easy access to many of the other attractions and events Ayrshire has to offer, as well as a wide choice of accommodation from luxurious hotels to self-catering properties.

There are easily accessible routes to get to Ayrshire when flying into Glasgow or Edinburgh with regular bus and train services. Prestwick Airport has direct trains to Irvine running up to two times an hour and taking less than 15 minutes all in. Irvine train station is situated right next to the Rivergate shopping centre, less than a 10-minute walk to the town centre.

Access to Irvine by car is simple via the motorway, following the M77 from Glasgow and M8 from Edinburgh before joining onto the A77 and A71 straight to Irvine.

Irvine has it all, whether you’re looking for a quiet, calm get away or a night out on the town. Play a few rounds of golf or go on a shopping spree and finish up with a drink and delicious meal from one of the many bars and restaurants. Or visit locations of the town’s rich history, such as the oldest active Burn’s Club in Scotland. And if you’re looking to be a bit more active, take your pick from the many cycle and walking paths Irvine has to offer.
